Basics Bank a special free food service for the poor and needy

The Basics Bank scheme provides basic food and hygiene items to the desperately poor.

Various referral agencies issue vouchers to individuals or families who they consider to be in need of this service. The vouchers are then redeemed at a local centre where they will be given a carrier bag containing a selection of basic food and hygiene items. The content can vary according to the particular needs of the individual but the usual selection includes:
Cereals, tinned food, Packaged food, drinks, household cleaners and personal hygiene items. There is also a baby bag containing

The produce is provided by local churches, schools and groups. This happens mostly at Harvest Festival and again at Christmas but obviously, the need is throughout the year. The scheme has to rely on donations to enable it to offer the service on a weekly basis.

Basic Banks desparately need funds, please help with a donation

Donations of basic foods are always welcomed. If you are a manufacturer or wholesaler and have end of line items, we would be pleased to accept them on behalf of the poor and needy.

Basic Banks require donations of foodstuffs that will keep without refrigeration.

If you are in a position where you have no money to purchase food for yourself or your children then please contact your local health worker who will access the situation and issue vouchers where appropriate.

Basics Bank operate a voucher scheme where basic foodstuff is exchanged for vouchers issued by health workers.
